MTG Star Trek Set 2026: Release Date, Commander Decks & Spoilers

Starfleet is heading to the Magic table. Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek arrives on 13 November 2026, bringing captains, starships, Klingons, the Borg and decades of science-fiction storytelling into Wizards of the Coast's Universes Beyond range. With the set celebrating Star Trek's 60th anniversary, this is shaping up to be a release that appeals to long-time Magic players and Star Trek collectors alike.

Official previews began on 20 October, and we've now seen the four Commander deck themes, new mechanics, standout collectible treatments and more. Here's what we know as of 27 October 2026, what looks especially interesting and what UK players should be watching before release.

When does MTG Star Trek release in the UK?

  • Prerelease events: 6–12 November 2026
  • MTG Arena release: 10 November 2026
  • Worldwide tabletop release: Friday 13 November 2026

Prerelease is the first opportunity for many players to explore the cards in person, open packs and build decks. Check individual UK game stores for scheduled events and availability. Wizards has confirmed these dates on its Star Trek event information page.

What's in the Star Trek MTG set?

The release ranges across the wider Star Trek franchise, rather than focusing on just one series. Characters and moments from different eras sit alongside famous starships, planets and adversaries. Kirk, Spock, Picard, Janeway, Seven of Nine, Worf and the Borg are among the familiar faces already featured in official material.

That range is part of the appeal. Fans of The Original Series might gravitate towards Kirk and the Enterprise, while players who grew up with The Next Generation or Voyager will find plenty to recognise. For collectors who don't currently play Magic, this is also a gateway into learning about the game.

The four Star Trek Commander decks

Commander players have four ready-to-play 100-card decks to choose from, each built around a different part of the Star Trek universe. Wizards says each standard deck includes a borderless traditional-foil face commander and 32 new-to-Magic cards, alongside reprints.

Federation Fleet — blue, red and white

Led by Jean-Luc Picard, Luminary, Federation Fleet takes a starship-focused approach, building around Spacecraft artifacts and an active crew. It's the obvious one to investigate if you want your Commander game to feel like running a Federation flagship.

Landing Party — green, white and blue

Commander Spock heads up a deck centred on exploring, lands with different names and gaining additional resources. Players who like thoughtful value engines and unusual land-based strategies may find this an intriguing starting point.

Klingon Fury — red, white and black

With Worf, Defiant Commander leading the charge, this is the aggressive option. Klingon Fury rewards getting into combat and pressing multiple opponents rather than sitting behind shields all game.

We Are the Borg — white, blue and black

Led by The Borg Queen, this deck uses artifact creatures and the new assimilate mechanic to bring opponents' creatures into the Collective. It looks especially appealing to players who enjoy building around creatures and taking control of the board.

Collector's Edition versions of all four decks are also planned, with surge-foil treatments across their cards. See the official Commander deck information for revealed cards and deck details.

New mechanics: Beam Me Up, dilemmas and assimilation

One of the more interesting things about Universes Beyond is seeing how a familiar fictional world is translated into Magic mechanics. Star Trek has plenty of material to work with: away teams, transporters, difficult command decisions, spacecraft and the Borg.

Beam Me Up

This new ability allows certain instant and sorcery spells to be cast from your graveyard by returning a creature you control to its owner's hand and paying the specified cost. That makes it potentially useful in decks with creatures that have strong enter-the-battlefield effects. The spell is exiled after being cast this way, so it isn't an unlimited recursion engine.

Face a Dilemma

Star Trek is full of command decisions where every option has consequences. In Magic, you face a dilemma when you choose one or more modes of a modal spell or ability. Cards that care about dilemmas can reward that choice, giving familiar Magic decisions an appropriately Trek-flavoured twist.

Spacecraft and station

Spacecraft artifacts return with the station ability. Your creatures help staff or power up ships, allowing certain Spacecraft to become creatures as they gain the necessary progress. Expect the Enterprises and other famous vessels to be among the attractions.

Assimilate

The Borg's signature mechanic lets you bring an opponent's creature card under your control, transforming it into a Borg artifact creature with an additional +1/+1 counter, subject to the exact effect. It's a suitably ominous direction for a Borg-themed deck.

The Commander decks also introduce mechanics such as battlefront, which rewards attacking different opponents, and seek out, which rewards drawing a second card in a turn. For the precise rules, see Wizards' official Star Trek mechanics guide.

What will collectors be looking for?

The collector side of the release goes beyond having a favourite character on a card. Wizards has announced several distinctive art and frame treatments, some appearing in different booster products.

Genuine actor-signed headliner cards

Perhaps the most eye-catching reveal is a series of seven actor-signed headliner cards. Wizards says each was physically signed by the actor associated with the character, with fewer than 250 copies of each. They are randomly inserted into Collector Boosters and are always English-language cards.

That is a genuinely unusual crossover between screen memorabilia and trading-card collecting. Scarcity could make these a significant talking point, but rarity alone does not guarantee any particular resale value. Actual demand and sales will matter.

LCARS-style shock lands

All ten shock lands are receiving a Star Trek LCARS treatment, inspired by the famous computer displays. These should interest players who want distinctive lands as well as fans of the franchise's visual design. Non-foil and traditional-foil versions appear in Play and Collector Boosters, while surge-foil versions are Collector Booster exclusives.

Stardates and other special frames

The Stardates cards reimagine recognisable Magic reprints through Star Trek moments and characters. There are also classic Enterprise-themed treatments and cards styled around Klingon script. If you're collecting a particular character, ship or treatment, make sure you check the exact printing rather than buying on card name alone.

You can see the current reveals in the official Star Trek card image gallery and learn more about the variants in Wizards' collecting guide.

Which Star Trek MTG products are coming?

Alongside individual cards, Wizards has announced Play Boosters, Collector Boosters, regular and Collector's Edition Commander decks, Bundles, the Beam Me Up Bundle, Draft Night and Scene Boxes.

  • Play Boosters: a natural starting point for opening cards and playing Limited.
  • Collector Boosters: aimed more at collectors seeking special treatments, premium foils and a chance at the signed headliners.
  • Commander decks: ready-to-play entry points for multiplayer Magic, with four distinct themes.
  • Beam Me Up Bundle: includes Play Boosters, a Collector Booster and two special foil Spacecraft promo cards.
  • Draft Night: a four-player drafting product with boosters and the basic supplies needed to play.

Choose the product based on what you actually want: a game night, a specific Commander strategy, sealed collecting or certain singles. The product with the flashiest packaging isn't necessarily the best value if you're only looking for one particular card. Check UK retailer availability and pricing rather than treating US recommended retail prices as UK shop prices.

Is MTG Star Trek legal in Standard and Commander?

Wizards has confirmed that cards in the main TRK set are legal in all Magic formats, subject to the usual individual-card restrictions. The separate Star Trek Commander set (TRC) and Stardates cards (SDS) are broadly aimed at Commander, Legacy and Vintage, with reprints also playable in formats where those cards were already legal.

That distinction is worth watching when assessing spoilers: a card printed in a Commander deck isn't automatically newly legal in Standard. The specific card and printing source matter.

Our take: a promising crossover for players and collectors

What interests us most about Star Trek is the range. There's a genuine multiplayer Commander angle, a main set that brings new cards into competitive formats, and collector treatments that could appeal to people who may never have opened a Magic booster before.

We'll be particularly interested to see which singles become useful in Commander decks once players have had time to test them, and which special versions maintain collector interest after release. Preorder excitement is not the same thing as an established singles market, so we'd rather watch actual demand than promise which cards will be expensive.

If you're looking to make room in your collection before release, Scotsman26777 already has a live MTG buylist for selected cards, and we also consider worthwhile Magic collections. Standard buylist offers are subject to approval and inspection, so please don't send cards before receiving instructions.
